Circlebox Blog Relaunch

This is a brick wall.
The above image is a completely random brick wall. I didn’t know what else to post. Forgive me, please?

Why hello there! It has been months since posting here. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably noticed there has been a huge change; a new theme, from the great WooThemes (really great company, by the way!).

Circlebox Blog is now going to be the main place I post my work in progress shots (for feedback, mainly) as well as short design process posts. Don’t fear though, I’ll also be writing the odd tutorial and article, and realising some other goodies along the way. Basically, it’s going to be the company blog to my company Circlebox Creative – so expect some news, too. Oh, and before I forget, I’ll also be writing editorials about the latest poster/print releases at the latest addition to the Circlebox Network, Picmix Store – a store dedicated to high-quality posters and prints. So keep an eye on this space for exclusive deals.

One thing I’ll no longer be posting here is design inspiration; if you want some of that, check out and subscribe to my other blog, The Inspiration Blog.

So, here’s a run down of what Circlebox Network is:

  • Circlebox Creative
The main (registered) company. I offer graphic and user interface design, print design and other services here.
  • Circlebox Blog
The companies blog, where I’ll post news, current projects, design processes and tutorials.
  • The Inspiration Blog
A blog dedicated to inspiration; that’s design, art and photography.
  • Picmix Store
A store dedicated to high quality and limited edition posters and prints.

That’s all for now! Keep your eyes peeled for updates!

A Quick Run-Through Of My Life In 2010 (So Far!)

The first two months of 2010 have been very busy, exciting and at times, a little stressful! This article is a quick run-through of everything me and my Fiancée have been up to in the early stages of 2010!

Home Hunting!

This month has been a very busy one for both me and my Fiancée, which is why there haven’t been all too many new articles recently! We have been hunting for somewhere to live (our first home together) for a few weeks now, and have looked round several properties; some nice and some terrible! We have finally found somewhere, and had a stressful, expensive and exciting few days of paying fees, filling in forms and getting them handed in on time! At last, it’s all done; now we’re just playing the waiting game – the forms are being sent off so they can nose into our daily lives to find out whether we’re loyal enough to look after someones property; I never knew renting in my country would be so difficult!

Moving out is going to be excellent. As well as getting to spend much more time with my gorgeous Fiancée, I’ll have a little more time to focus on my work, as well as having a real office space instead of a small corner in my very small bedroom which I somehow managed to fit a double bed, a 32″ LCD TV, a Blu-Ray Cinema System, an office and lots of books, clothes and various other things in; I’m looking very forward to being able to sleep in a different room to where I work!

Barcelona!

With the majority of the stressful stuff out the way now regarding home hunting, we have a few nights away in the busy city of Barcelona, which we hear is quite stunning! We will be staying at Hotel Silken Diagonal, a very modern hotel (inside and out) designed by famous Barcelona architect Juli Capella.

It’s going to do nothing but good to get away for a few days and have a nice relaxing break and see a few famous sights. I’m planning on taking lots of photos so expect a follow-up post! Hopefully Barcelona will provide plenty of inspiration and I’ll come back refreshed with lots of great ideas!

A Huge Thanks!

Over the past few weeks, Circlebox Blog has been featured on various blogs across the design community, and the subscriber count has doubled since the New Year. I’d like to say a huge thanks to all the subscribers and visitors for your support over the past few months! Another huge thanks goes out to those advertising on Circlebox – if you haven’t already, be sure to check their sites out! If you fancy joining in and getting some great targeted traffic from Circlebox, be sure to check out the Circlebox BuySellAds Listing. You can grab yourself an advertisement spot from $10 per month with 65,000 impressions!

When I said this is a quick run-through, I meant it! We’re leaving in about one hours time for the airport, and flying out at about 4pm. So, whilst I’m gone, feel free to check out some old articles by browsing through the growing archives! I’ll probably post the odd photo from time to time via Twitter if Barcelona is big on WiFi spots, so be sure to add me on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date with my daily-doings! Expect a follow-up post sometime next week!

Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year!

Christmas is here and we’re only days from the opening of the new year, twenty-ten! I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you to all my readers for your continued support since launch of Circlebox. Read on for a few stats since the release of Circlebox and what’s in store for the coming months.

The Past

Circlebox Blog was opened to the public about six months ago on the 25th June, 2009. Since then 65 posts have been posted, with a total of 145 tags and 1,071 comments.

The redesign was released on the 1st December 2009, and immediately made a huge impact to the daily visits. The design in itself was clearly not the only reason I hit a new record of over 20,000 unique hits in one day, though! Around this time I quit my part-time job, making it possible for me to concentrate on my company and blog (this post broke my record), and work for the great guys at Smashing Magazine, Six Revisions and TutsPlus (thank you for making all of this possible, leaders of the design community!).

All in all, since the 1st December to the 24th December Circlebox Blog has had a total of 60,000 visits and 80,000 pageviews. Lets hope this continues in the new year!

The Future

With the New Year comes new plans, new wishes and of course a New Years Resolution. So what do I have planned?

  • Make Circlebox Blog successful and hit 10,000 RSS subscribers.
  • Post two quality articles per week for Circlebox Blog.
  • Fill my BuySellAds spots.
  • Regularly write for Smashing Magazine, Six Revisions and the Tuts+ Network.
  • Move out with my Fiancée.
  • Get an office which isn’t in my bedroom!
  • Depending on the success of Circlebox Blog, possibly start a new project.
  • Don’t put off learning to drive, pass my test, and maybe buy a motorbike to get around on (I don’t need to leave the house much!).

As for a New Years Resolution, I’m going to try to stop biting my nails, which has been a New Years Resolution of mine since as long as I can remember!

Something else that’s going to be big in the next year is guest writing here at Circlebox Blog. I’m hoping in the coming months I will be able to sort out some of my finances and come up with a good price to pay guest writers. I’ll be looking into accepting written articles, quality tutorials (print and web) and freebies such as icon packs and blog themes. More on that in the new year!

For now though, Merry Christmas to all of my readers, and I wish you a very Happy New Year!

The Circlebox Creative Redesign

As the majority of you reading this probably know already, Circlebox Blog went through a major redesign last week and has since seen the blog through a whopping 40,351 visits and 52,111 pageviews – that’s a 145.69% increase in traffic! I am now glad to announce the release of the Circlebox Creative Redesign, which follows the exact same styling of the blog!

The Circlebox Creative Redesign

My new portfolio is a one-page vertical scrolling design. I want to keep it simple, and to the same style of the blog. It uses the same styling, navigation bar (although it does always stay at the top of the page for easy navigation) and background.

Preview Screenshots

Here are a few screenshots, but be sure to visit the real thing. It has been browser tested in Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer 6 onwards. If you find any problems, let me know! I love the hover over logo and images!

I’d like to say a huge thanks to Benjamin Reid who developed the designs for me, be sure to add him on Twitter and visit his awesome blog Nouveller, which is also where the icons on CB Blog and Creative come from!

Advertisement Spots

With increasing traffic, now might be a good time to start advertising on Circlebox Blog. As mentioned earlier, the blog has seen a huge increase of 145.69% in traffic, with it’s top day this month reaching 20,825 unique visitors.

Advertisement spots are available through BuySellAds, making your purchases secure and simple. A big thanks to ShopHTML for purchasing the first spot on CB Blog!

What’s Next?

I’ve been very busy recently with writing for various sites such as Smashing Magazine, Six Revisions and the Tuts+ Network. Don’t worry though, there is plenty in store for Circlebox Blog, so be sure to subscribe to the RSS Feed! If you see a post on Circlebox Blog and you like it, please don’t forget to help promote it by stumbling the page, tweeting about it or adding it to your collection of bookmarks at Delicious!

That’s all for now – please let me know if you find any problems with the new Circlebox Theme!

The Circlebox Monthly: 18th September 2009

There are a couple major changes as from today, so I thought I’d share them with you as soon as possible!

As a lot of you may have noticed already, Circlebox Textures went down this morning. It was a HUGE mistake, made entirely by me! There were two (for some strange reason) WordPress installations for Circlebox Textures, and the one that wasn’t being used was actually, somehow, running the blog… I’m not quite sure how that was happening but it was. So anyway, I’ve searched my Mac and no back up can be found for the posts, so I’ve decided, with the suggestions of some others, to merge Circlebox Textures with Circlebox Blog.

That means that your favourite textures are no longer live, so I will be posting them over the next few months here at Circlebox Blog. It’s a huge pain, not only do I have to repost all of the textures, but I lose all of them hundreds of links that were a great source of traffic – hopefully they’ll be redirected to here when they’re all up again.

If you have your own blog, please let me know, as I am more than willing to donate some of the texture packs for my readers to post on their own design blogs, in return for a link to Circlebox Blog.

For all of my Circlebox Texture readers, just subscribe to the Circlebox Blog feed to make sure you don’t miss any future texture packs!

Other than this, there’s not all that much going on right now. A tutorial I’ve written is due for release at Tutorial9.net soon, so keep an eye open for that! I’m full time job hunting at the moment, and am available for freelance design projects, so hit me up with an email if you want a quote over at circleboxcreative.com!
